Heroes Day

The Mexico Area Family YMCA holds an annual Heroes' Day on the first Saturday of January each year. A continental breakfast is served and past heroes and members are invited to attend.  Heroes’ Day is an off-shoot of Tom Taylor Day; Tom was a long time volunteer who dedicated many hours to the Y and recruited many other volunteers to assist in running bingo games and repairing the facility.  It has evolved into an opportunity for the YMCA to honor other dedicated volunteers, people who shaped our Y in the past and volunteers who shape it today.  The transition in the title came when Robert Marty shared that “these people were really heroes of the YMCA in every sense of the word.”

Volunteers who have been recognized with a Hero award include:

Tom Taylor, Mary Karellas, Darrel Ransdell, Jack Creason, Roslyn Dial, Jean Hill, George Irion, Robert McIntosh, Charles Doerge, Ralph McDaniel, Art Clervi, Tammy Angel, Ann Dawson, Nancy Ekern, Steve Hagan, Carla Tanzey, Chad Shoemaker, Patrick Kelly, Paul Seigfreid, Mary Cockelreas, Jessie Taylor, Linda Hopkins, Dan Erdel, Robert Marty, Kim Costley Robby Miller, Jeff Frazier, The City of Mexico, Sherry Medley, Max Kennen Cheryl Bledsoe, Mike Briggs, Stacy Nichols, Howard Tanzey, Pat Schindler, George Huffman, Deb Haag and Melissa Buckman Young.
